Implant dentistry is the best available option to replace missing teeth.
An implant is a surgical grade titanium screw that is placed in patient's bone. The bone then grows around the implant, securing it in the mouth; this is known as osseo-integration. The implant then functions as a platform to build a new single tooth or an anchor for dentures or partial dentures.
The process varies greatly depending on individual circumstances and goals; however, it always consists of two phases. The first is surgical and involves placing the implant. Once placed, the implant is allowed to integrate over the next three to six months. After healing, the restorative phase begins. At no time during this process will the patient have to go without a tooth or a denture. During your consultation, the process will be explained in step-by-step detail.
