Perfect Your Smile with Clear Aligners

A beautiful smile can boost your self-image and confidence. However, you might avoid treatment because you don’t want to wear metal braces. Fortunately, clear aligners like clear aligners may be an option.

How Clear Aligners Works

Clear aligners orthodontics treatment takes time and regular changes to move your teeth. Your dentist customizes a series of plastic aligners to create the best results.

Tooth Movement

Your dentist or orthodontist plans your treatment to move your teeth in tiny increments using removable trays. The trays are custom-fitted and put pressure on your teeth to move them a fraction of a millimeter at a time.

Clear aligners helps move and straighten teeth with mild:

  • Overbite
  • Open bite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Crowding
  • Gaps
  • Crookedness

Series of Aligners

Where traditional braces involve frequent wire and elastic changes, clear aligners involve frequent aligner replacements to achieve the ideal positioning. You’ll wear a set of trays for at least 22 hours a day for one week and then change to the next aligner in the system for another week, and so on. Your dentist may ask you to come to the clinic every few weeks to pick up your next aligners, or they may send the whole system home and follow up regularly.

Treatment Time

Clear aligners work in a shorter time than traditional braces when you don’t need any teeth pulled. In studies, clear aligners treatment time was 67% shorter than traditional, fixed braces. However, total treatment time also depends on how well you follow your treatment plan and how often you wear your aligners.

Why Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners have several key benefits compared to other orthodontic treatments, which may suit your lifestyle and needs.

Removable

Clear aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss, making them more comfortable and convenient. You can also take them out for occasional and short social outings, as long as you wear them for at least 22 hours of the day.

Nearly Invisible

As it sounds, clear aligners are made of clear plastic and are virtually invisible. Rather than metal wires, brackets, and elastics, you wear transparent trays that fit snugly over your teeth. It’s almost impossible to see where they start and stop, making them a discreet option with minimal disruption to your lifestyle or appearance.

Comfortable

Repositioning your teeth will cause discomfort, whether through clear aligners or traditional braces. However, there are no brackets and wires to irritate your gums and cheeks with Clear aligners. While a new set of retainers may cause some initial pain, you can remove them for 2 hours throughout the day for a short break. Fixed braces don't have that option.

Easy Hygiene

One of the biggest challenges with braces is getting your teeth clean. It’s hard to fit floss between teeth with wires in the way or clean around the brackets. Your aligners are removable, so it’s easier to brush and floss your teeth and keep your gums healthy.

Clear aligners may also help prevent white spots on your teeth that can happen with traditional braces. However, acids and sugars can seep into your retainers, especially if you eat or drink with them. You need to remove your aligners before snacks and meals and brush your teeth carefully before putting them back. Otherwise, you may develop staining and tooth decay.
